ADA WASHINGTON TORNADO SHELTER

CATEGORY : EDUCATION

We’re grateful to Ada City Schools and the community for supporting five new Tornado Shelters at different campus sites.  This Tornado Shelter was an addition to the existing Washington Grade Center.  It shelters 496 occupants using insulated concrete forms and reinforced concrete.  Stone veneer was used to blend exterior finishes.  The shelter connects two existing classroom wings, at different elevations, using an interior ADA compliant ramp and stairs.  The connecting commons is used by students as a gathering place while waiting for parent loading.
