ADA REDBUD ELEMENTARY

CATEGORY: Education

Ada Redbud Elementary is a $24M 77,000 square foot new elementary for 3rd and 4th Grade Students.  The design approach focused on four major areas: Enrichment, Flexibility, Safety, and Health.

Enrichment consisted in enhancing the student experience with the use of building colors, textures, light, shapes, and murals.  A biophilic design was embraced using windows and interior courtyards creating outdoor learning areas.

Flexibility included collaborative learning spaces with technology integrated and located throughout the building.  The full-size Gymnasium doubles as a Tornado Shelter following FEMA guidelines.

Security was a driving design factor for both external and internal threats.  Building access is limited and controlled with access controls.  Travel distances inside the building were limited to speed up access inside the building.  We created multiple student loading areas with vehicles stacking to get cars off the public street and onto the school site in a safe manor.

Health was considered in the design that included social distancing, student flow, larger shared spaces, and barriers.  The Nurses Station has access from the Corridor for infection and isolation.
